Terms of Service — DonePass
Last updated: 2026-09-06 Applies to: DonePass v1.0 for iOS, and the DonePass website.
1. Agreement
These Terms are a contract between you and Sawariya Seth LLC, doing business as DonePass, 5 Kennedy Cir, Brentwood NH ("DonePass", "we", "us"). By buying, downloading, creating an account on, or using the DonePass app or website ("the Service"), you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect and forms part of these Terms.
2. Who may use DonePass
- You must be 18 or older and legally able to enter into a contract to create a DonePass account.
- You must be the parent or legal guardian of every child you add, or have that parent or guardian's authority to act for them.
- A child may use the Service only through a profile created by their parent or guardian, on a device that parent or guardian controls. Children cannot create accounts.
- You are responsible for everything that happens under your account, including what your children do in it, and including every decision to block or unblock an app.
3. What DonePass is, what it does, and what it cannot do
DonePass is a homework-accountability tool for one family. A parent starts a focus session; apps the family has chosen are blocked on the child's iPhone for the length of the session; the child photographs the finished work; the parent reviews it and the apps come back.
3.1 How the blocking works
DonePass blocks apps through Family Controls, a framework Apple builds into iOS for exactly this purpose. We do not run our own blocking software on the phone and we do not ask you to install a profile from us. When DonePass blocks an app, iOS blocks it.
Three consequences follow, and they are the whole shape of the product:
- The apps to block are chosen on the child's device, in a picker drawn by iOS. This is not a design preference; Apple's app identifiers are tied to the device and the family group, so a list picked on your phone would be a list of your apps.
- We never learn which apps you picked. iOS gives us opaque tokens, not names. Your screen says "12 apps blocked" because twelve is genuinely all we know. See §4.6 of the Privacy Policy.
- We cannot see what your child does. DonePass can stop an app from opening. It cannot report which apps your child opened, for how long, or what they did in them. If you want a monitoring product, DonePass is not one.
3.2 Three things we promise about blocking, and will not take away
These are safety properties, not features. We will not make them configurable, and we will not remove them in a later version without saying so in these Terms first.
- Phone and Messages are never blocked. Not by you, not by us, not by any setting. A child in a DonePass session can always make a call and always send a message, including to emergency services. There is no switch that changes this.
- Every session ends by itself. A DonePass block carries a hard ceiling of 3 hours. When that ceiling is reached, the block is lifted — whether or not the parent acted, whether or not the phones have any network, and whether or not our servers are up. The ceiling is enforced by code running on the child's own device, so it holds for as long as DonePass is installed there. We do not claim it survives DonePass being deleted from the child's device while a block is up; if that happens, use Screen Time on the child's device to clear the restriction.
- "Remove all blocking" is always reachable. The control that lifts every block on a child's device is available to the parent at all times, from the parent app, and is never behind a paywall, a session state, or a network round-trip that has to succeed. If your child's phone is in a state you do not want it in, you can always get out of it.
3.3 The limits, stated plainly
How well DonePass blocks depends on how you set it up, and the two options are not equivalent.
- With Family Sharing, where you approve Screen Time access with your own Apple ID, your child cannot turn the blocking off. This is the mode we recommend and the mode the app steers you towards.
- Without Family Sharing, where the child's own device grants Screen Time access, your child can defeat the block. Apple's own documentation says the system deliberately leaves the user able to bypass parental controls in this mode: they can switch the permission off in Settings, delete DonePass, or sign out of iCloud. We cannot stop any of those and we do not claim to. What DonePass does instead is notice and tell you — the child's device stops checking in, and we alert you. In this mode DonePass is an honest-effort tool that works with a cooperating child and does not work against a determined one. If that is not what you want, use Family Sharing.
DonePass is also not:
- a monitoring or surveillance product — see §3.1;
- a safety, security, or emergency device. Do not rely on it to know where your child is, to reach them, or to protect them. It is a homework tool;
- an educational service. We do not assess, grade, tutor, or verify that any homework is correct or genuine. Only you do that. DonePass cannot tell whether a photograph shows your child's work, last week's work, or somebody else's;
- a substitute for supervision, or for a conversation with your child about it. It works best as the structure around an agreement you have already made.
3.4 It is your decision to block
You decide whether to block, what to block, and for how long. We give you a tool. Blocking apps on a child's phone is a parenting decision with consequences that belong to you, and §11 reflects that.
4. Your account
- Keep your credentials confidential and tell us promptly at
support@donepass.comif you believe your account has been used without your permission. - Give us accurate information and keep your email address current — it is how we reach you about the account, and it is where the parental consent notices described in §3 of the Privacy Policy are sent.
- One account per parent. Do not share an account with anyone outside your household.
5. Content you and your child submit
You keep ownership of everything you and your children put into DonePass, including homework photos.
You grant us a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, transmit and display that content solely in order to operate the Service for your family — for example, storing a photo so the parent can review it. That licence exists only for that purpose and ends when the content is deleted.
We will not use your content for advertising, marketing, product promotion, or to train artificial-intelligence models, and we will not disclose it to any third party. That is a commitment we have made in a place where it binds us: our lawful basis for collecting anything from your child at all depends on never disclosing it. See §3.2 of the Privacy Policy.
You confirm that you have the right to submit the content and that it does not infringe anyone else's rights.
6. Acceptable use
Do not:
- Submit photos that are not genuine proof of the work claimed.
- Submit anything sexual, violent, hateful, harassing, or otherwise inappropriate — in particular, do not photograph a child's body; the camera is for schoolwork.
- Photograph or upload other people without their consent.
- Add a child you are not the parent or guardian of, or whose parent or guardian has not authorised you.
- Use the Service, or its blocking features, to surveil, coerce, punish, or intimidate anyone.
- Block a device belonging to an adult, or to a child who is not yours, or use DonePass on a device you do not have the right to control.
- Attempt to access another family's data, probe or interfere with our systems, reverse-engineer the app except where that right cannot be excluded by law, or use automated means to access the Service.
- Resell or commercially redistribute the Service.
We may remove content or suspend accounts that breach this section. For serious cases — in particular anything involving the safety of a child — we may act immediately and without notice, and may report it to the relevant authorities.
7. Price, purchase and refunds
DonePass is free to download, free to use for one child, and unlocks the rest with one purchase made inside the app. That purchase covers the app for your family on the Apple devices your Apple Account entitles you to.
7.1 What is free, with no purchase and no time limit
- One child. Add a child, pair their phone, and use DonePass for them for as long as you like.
- Unlimited sessions that you start. Every session you begin yourself, with tasks, photo proof and your approval of each one. There is no cap on how many, and no allowance that runs out.
- Everything that is a safety feature. Break requests, pausing, ending a session early, the hard session ceiling in §3.2 and §8, and Remove all blocking are never behind a purchase and never will be. A device that is locked is never held there because of a payment.
7.2 What the purchase adds
- Every child in your household, on the one account and the one price. There is no per-child charge.
- Recurring homework times. Days and a start time you set once, after which the session begins on its own at that time.
- Saved session settings, so a session you configured once can be started again in a single tap.
- History beyond the last seven days. Without the purchase, DonePass shows the current week; the older sessions are not deleted, and they reappear if you purchase later.
Nothing you already have is taken away if a Monthly subscription lapses: children you added remain, their history remains, and sessions you start by hand keep working. You simply cannot add a further child or create a new recurring time until the subscription is active again.
7.3 The two ways to buy
There are two, and they differ only in how you pay:
- Lifetime — a one-time purchase. It does not renew and there is nothing to cancel.
- Monthly — an auto-renewing subscription. It renews every month at the price shown until you cancel. Your Apple Account is charged when you confirm the purchase and again within 24 hours of the end of each month. You can cancel at any time, at least 24 hours before the month ends, in Settings → your name → Subscriptions. Cancelling stops future charges; it does not refund the month you are in, and you keep access until that month runs out.
Other than the payment schedule, they are the same product:
- Both unlock exactly the same features — everything in §7.2. No feature is held back from one option and given to the other, and nothing inside DonePass costs extra beyond the unlock. There are no consumables, no credits, and no per-child or per-session charges.
- Restoring. If you buy DonePass and later sign in on another device, or reinstall, use Restore purchases on the unlock screen. You will not be charged twice for the same Apple Account.
- Apple is the seller. You buy from Apple, you pay Apple, and Apple handles the transaction. We never see your card details — see §2 of the Privacy Policy.
- Refunds go through Apple, not us. Apple's App Store refund policy
applies, and requests are made at
reportaproblem.apple.com. We cannot issue, approve, or refuse an App Store refund. If you think you are owed one, write to us anyway atsupport@donepass.comand we will tell you what we know, but the decision is Apple's. - Price changes. A change to the Lifetime price applies to new purchases only and never claws anything back from a purchase already made. For the Monthly subscription, Apple requires your explicit consent before a price increase can take effect, and where it does not, the subscription simply stops rather than renewing at a price you did not agree to.
- If we ever introduce a further paid add-on, we will say so in advance, features you already have will not be taken away and put behind it, and any purchase will be made through Apple under Apple's terms.
8. Availability
We aim to keep the Service running but do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free. We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of it. If we discontinue the Service entirely we will give reasonable notice and a way to retrieve your data — and we will lift any blocking that is in place before we go.
The Service depends on your internet connection, your devices, Apple's frameworks and services, and third-party infrastructure (see the Privacy Policy) that we do not control.
9. Disclaimers
To the fullest extent the law allows, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
Specifically, and without limiting the above, we do not warrant:
About blocking:
- that any app will be blocked on any particular device at any particular moment. Blocking is performed by Apple's Family Controls framework and depends on that framework, on the version of iOS your child is running, and on the Screen Time authorisation remaining in place;
- that your child cannot defeat the block. Where Screen Time access was granted on the child's own device rather than through Family Sharing, they can — see §3.3. Where it was granted through Family Sharing they should not be able to, but we do not warrant that either;
- that we will detect a defeated block, or detect it promptly. Detection depends on the child's device being able to reach the internet, and a phone that is off, out of signal, or in Airplane Mode cannot tell us anything;
- that a block will start, or end, at an exact time. Sessions end on time in the ordinary case; the guarantee we do give is the 3-hour ceiling in §3.2, and it is a ceiling rather than a promise of precision.
About everything else:
- that the Service will cause any child to do homework, do it honestly, or do it on time;
- that a photo submitted as proof is genuine, current, or of the work it claims to show — verification is the parent's judgement alone;
- that notifications will be delivered, delivered promptly, or delivered at all. Push delivery depends on Apple and on network conditions. Do not rely on DonePass to alert you to anything time-critical, and in particular do not rely on it as a safety or emergency notification channel.
One thing we do state as a commitment rather than a disclaimer, and which nothing in this section is intended to qualify: DonePass does not block Phone or Messages (§3.2), so blocking DonePass has applied never prevents a child from calling or texting for help.
Nothing in these Terms excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost data, missed homework, academic consequences, disputes within your family, missed calls or messages, or loss of use of a device.
Our total liability arising out of or relating to the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid for DonePass in the twelve months before the claim, or US$50.
Some jurisdictions do not allow these limits, in which case they apply to the maximum extent permitted and your statutory consumer rights are unaffected.
11. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless against claims, losses and reasonable costs arising from your breach of these Terms, your misuse of the Service, content you or your children submit, or your use of the blocking features on a device — except to the extent the claim is caused by our own breach.
12. Ending the agreement
- You may stop using DonePass at any time. Removing all blocking is a single control in the parent app (§3.2), and deleting the app from a child's device removes any blocking DonePass has applied. You can delete your account from Settings → Delete Account. §8 of the Privacy Policy explains precisely what that erases.
- We may suspend or terminate an account that breaches these Terms, or where we are required to by law. Except in urgent cases we will give you notice and, where practical, a chance to fix the problem. Where we suspend or terminate an account, we will lift any blocking that account has applied rather than leave a child's phone restricted.
Sections 5 (as to the licence already granted), 9, 10, 11 and 15 survive termination.
13. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. The date at the top reflects the current version. For changes that materially affect you, we will give notice in the app and ask you to acknowledge them before continuing. If you do not accept a change, your remedy is to stop using the Service and delete your account.
The three promises in §3.2 are the exception: we will not weaken any of them without saying so in the notice, in those words.
14. Apple
This section applies because you obtained DonePass from the App Store.
- These Terms are between you and us only. Apple is not a party to them, and Apple is not responsible for DonePass or its content.
- Your licence to use DonePass is a non-transferable licence to run it on Apple-branded devices you own or control, as permitted by the App Store Terms of Service.
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for
DonePass. Support requests go to
support@donepass.com. - If DonePass fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price, if any. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation whatsoever with respect to DonePass.
- Apple is not responsible for addressing any claim by you or a third party relating to DonePass, including product-liability claims, any claim that it fails to conform to a legal or regulatory requirement, and claims under consumer-protection or similar legislation.
- Apple is not responsible for investigating, defending, settling or discharging any third-party claim that DonePass infringes intellectual property rights.
- You confirm you are not located in a country subject to a US Government embargo or designated as "terrorist supporting", and that you are not on any US Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and, on your acceptance, will have the right to enforce them against you.
15. General
- Governing law: the laws of the State of New Hampshire, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Nothing here deprives you of the protection of mandatory consumer law where you live.
- Entire agreement: these Terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between us about the Service.
- Severability: if a provision is unenforceable, the rest stands.
- No waiver: not enforcing a right is not a waiver of it.
- Assignment: you may not assign these Terms. We may assign them to a successor to our business, on notice to you.
